Blurb:

Janet Weiss, PhD., spends every waking moment between office hours and searching for the lifesaving tools that would become the gold standard in treating mood disorders in women. She’s too busy for a social life and takes great pleasure in writing erotica in her spare time. Up until recently, she’s avoided thoughts about her sexuality. Now she finds herself obsessing about women and concludes that her sexual identity needs defining. She’s headed to a professional convention in Manhattan and wonders if she should put her theory to the test. A nationally known researcher, Dr. Olivia Chase (Chaz), is a stunning woman, who happens to be smart, witty, and a lesbian. She’s also Janet’s roommate for the duration of the con. Janet develops a huge crush on Chaz and suspects the feeling may be mutual. Chaz may be too impossible to resist, but will Janet be able to go through with her personal quest?

Review:

Janet is a psychologist helping women with mood disorders to battle their issues. She also has a side job writing erotic stories to make a little extra cash and provide an outlet for her otherwise unfulfilling sex life. She has noticed a change in her recent stories that coincides with a personal discovery. Her stories are focusing more and more on lesbian characters, and Janet can’t help but wonder if these characters are a reflection of her true self. While at a conference, Janet is rooming with a complete stranger who sends Janet’s emotions and desires running wild.

This is a quick and enjoyable story about a woman beginning to explore new desires and needs. The character of Janet is well drawn and, as the story is from her point of view, she is understandably more developed than Chaz. Their interactions cause sparks to fly from the very beginning and you just know it will culminate in a very satisfying ending once they give in to their mutual attraction.

The story is well written and it flows smoothly. There are some points where the story veers off course slightly or provides more details than are really needed, but in general it stays on course and drives to the climax. There are many details about New York that readers familiar with the city will likely appreciate and recognize. This is a sweet story of discovery and exploration with a smidgen of spice mixed in to satisfy readers. This was an introduction to a new author for me and I will definitely be looking to read more stories from Crystal.

The Ties That Bind is a wonderful sexy story with the spice of a BDSM lifestyle. Tristan and Cyndy were two women who had hidden their true nature from each other. With the help of some friends they come fully out of the closet into each other’s arms. I found the story to be touching as well as exciting and was never disappointed. Cheri Crystal writes a story that is thrilling to read.

When Cyndy’s girlfriend invites her to Women’s Week in Provincetown, Massachusetts, all she expects is a fun time with other women and lots of great bedroom time with Tristan. And the home they rent with Tristan’s twin and her girlfriend is a dream. But you never know what to expect when your girlfriend is not only incredibly sexy, but also amazingly adventurous. This is one vacation that Cyndy will never forget. Cheri Crystal has written a short story that eloquently captures the depth of relationship between Cyndy and Tristan. The two main characters are a reasonably new couple and have a lot to learn about each other, and the reader learns right along with them. She doesn’t make the mistake of buttonholing her characters in their butch and femme roles, but allows them to be the full people that they are. The backdrop of all the activities of Women’s Week was also cool.

This is truly an erotic romance, and I particularly liked that the descriptions of the sexual activity between the characters starts out slowly, while we get to know Cyndy and Tristan, and builds to a more intimate (and adventurous) level as the story progresses. I always like to read about people who truly care about each other, and it doesn’t hurt that they also majorly turn each other on.

Excerpt:

As passengers continued to board, I opened my book to where I’d left off. Despite her corny pseudonym, Palmer Clitsky’s latest erotic romance sent me into acute sexual alert. Every agonizing passage put my sex in a vice until the stunning conclusion when I landed on the brink of spontaneously climaxing.

I squirmed in my seat and reached for water. A swig of the cool liquid wet my parched throat, but didn’t quench my thirst. I had to look up or risk exploding in public. A real cutie with a bold, blonde EMO cut captured my attention. Her angular features, which reminded me of anime, were partially hidden by a shock of long, layered bangs. I got lost in appreciating the contrast between her rough demeanor and her smooth creamy vanilla complexion. As she got closer, her fresh-scrubbed, Ivory-girl look intrigued me further. But not as much as her low-cut, baggy cargo pants, which allowed a nice view of her tummy ring. Above it, an open button-down shirt hung loosely over a tight white tank top. When she moved, I could just make out her nips under the thin material.

Oh yeah, I was in lust.
